Confessions of a Christmas tragic

I love Christmas! I love the songs, the decorations, the kitschness, the fake snow everywhere when outside it's 40 degrees...I cant stop buying Christmas cd's! Every year I buy a few more and they all end up in my car, so at the moment there is a constant stream of Christmas songs coming from the Cd player!
I love the memories it brings...I love driving my children all over Melbourne in the balmy Summer nights, trying to find houses with more and more lights! tacky yes, fun, yes! last year my kids spent most of their time at a house with a Winter Wonderland theme and every minute or so a big blower thingy would blow fake snow all around them! They loved it!
I love talking to the neighbours as we all wander up and down the street looking at each others lights, and the children run from house to house!
Its funny how I feel almost guilty for enjoying this time of year, should I be more grown up, cynical, Im well aware of all the downsides to being a Christmas tragic, Im a dream to merchandisers, Im willing to part with money for something cute and sparkly! puh...I dont care! It makes me happy, it makes me feel like a kid.......:) Hooray for Christmas!

Furthermore, as one of those who detests Christmas, I resent your implications that I am therefore cynical :) There is room somewhere in the middle and that is where I sit :)

You know, I would be right there with you if we were celebrating something that I could get my teeth into. I propose we invent a new cultural celebration to celebrate over the year. One that falls in the middle of the Southern Hemispherean winter so that we get somehing to focus on in the darker months. Something that resonates wiht everyone and excites us and makes us all feel all cosy and stuff. And we can incorporate as much sparkly stuff as you like :)

Thinking more about this, and continuing on with my lengthy conversation with myself :) I do understand why you enjoy it. It's saying more against my own irritating philosophical bent and Magda Zubanski-like increasing ageing that I am such a strop, when indeed, you take such lovely childlike delight in the fun of the season. :)

I think I shall have to come out with you and boys one night, if you don't mind such a crusty old crone like me coming along, heh!! :D

PS: I put this last bit in because I read back my comments and it sounded like I was far more grumpy and less playful than I was in those earlier comments. and so I put in that last comment. And this comment is a comment on that last comment.

:)

(I think I'm finished now)

Happy Christmas, Andi. May you be overwhelmed with amazing, festive, Lampoon-style lights :)

haha, that was funny! Like being inside your brain and watching it whirr and turn and argue with itself! Look, I can see what you're saying, but I really feel that to be happy during this time will make me better to be around, and then the family are happy! I think the thing that makes me worry the most is the people who spend it alone, and I would love to do something or help even one person to feel more connected at Christmas.
But I cant help it cuz, I have always loved Christmas and time aint changing that so...
come along, lets see if we can inject some good ole festive cheer into your life ;) hehe...xx
